Playing with bios settings mostly related to my graphics for the thrill of it, and to see if any changes would be noticable. Everything seemed fine, I rebuilt kernel and world, and then a reboot seemed to cause a panic. Even though I am sure that nothing changed in my mildly customized kernel configuration, something seemed to be different because choosing the prior kernel from the menu booted to the login prompt just fine.
I looked around a bit more. Not long ago I had a conflict with vmm and virtualbox denying me access. It was the most peculiar problem that I couldn't solve by using a usb boot media device. The
The problem with booting now I believe I have solved with updating the amdgpu driver and drm-kmod. I had updated xlibre not many days prior so I left that alone. When I worked to update drm-kmod, I noticed that there exists
I rebooted, chose the newer kernel that I had just updated, and nearly held my breath. The graphics transitions and console fonts display were different and I was able to reach the login prompt. Glorious success. A nice win after having no success with trying to use bhyve with either Windows 7 or Windows 11 installed from an iso for either. I expected Windows 11 would work better. A configuration for Windows 7 that let me see the installer boot screen and first menus didn't even let me see the Windows 11 boot screen.
I had spent a bunch of time trying to get the bios configured back to what it may have been when things worked decently. Now that everything is working I am not sure it had too much to do with it, but I might have brought everything back without being certain. I think I will still try tweaking some settings again, I am curious what 'drm psp' was about.
Output of dmesg shows me that there was some issues with graphics drivers, but these are the last two boots, one prior to my reinstalls and one after. There were other odd messages during boot while I was struggling that I do not see here. Once more I should have saved the dmesg output before doing anything to fix everything. It is easy to put the focus on getting everything working properly instead of documenting, I'm not sure I can react differently.
